Patient Relief Program

Through our Patient Relief Program, we provide assistance for breast cancer patients who are struggling to continue their treatment because of financial obstacles. TBCRF works with hospitals, clinics, and other cancer treatment institutions across the United States that identify patients in need and have an established system to qualify them for assistance. This program is administered by each institution’s social services office to aid patients with the some of the many costs associated with treatment while away from home. Examples of assistance include the following:

Transportation for Patients – prepaid gas cards or reimbursement to patients that have to travel moderate/long distances or take public transportation to their required physician appointments or treatment.

Lodging Assistance – hotel/motel funds for patients who travel long distances and must remain near the hospital for multiple days for assessment of their condition or to receive treatment.

Nutritional Supplements/Meals for Patients – purchase of nutritional supplements to help the patients gain or maintain weight. Funds to purchase food on day of physician appointments/treatments for those patients who travel long distances.

Medications/Co-pays for Therapy – purchase of prescription or over the counter medicine costs not covered by insurance or other programs. Fund co-pays in needy circumstances.

Mammogram Screenings – mammogram screenings, etc. so that underserved women can have the opportunity to detect their cancer at the earliest stage by providing funds to meet expenses not covered.

Through this program, we have found an overwhelming need for this type of financial assistance and our goal is to expand the program to alleviate financial factors which hinder the patient’s ability to receive treatment away from home.
