President’s Message

Dear Friend,

As a breast cancer survivor, I want to personally thank you for your support and tell you how important it is. With early detection and treatment the chance of surviving breast cancer is over ninety percent. Please help raise awareness and share these statistics about breast cancer that everyone should know:

  • One woman in eight women will develop breast cancer during her lifetime.
  • Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 40 and 55.
  • A very significant number of breast cancers are found through breast self-exams (BSEs), though it should be noted that 8 out of 10 breast lumps are not cancerous. TBCRF encourages BSEs as an effective way for women to become familiar with the normal look and feel of their breasts, so that they can report any irregularities or concerns to their health care provider.
  • Not all lumps are detectable by touch; in addition to breast self-exams, we recommend regular mammograms, which offer the best method for detecting breast cancer in its earliest stages.

The Breast Cancer Relief Foundation supports education, prevention, medical assistance and relief, and innovative research programs in order to reduce the incidence of breast cancer throughout the world. TBCRF is also committed to assisting patients, survivors, and their families in coping with the personal devastation caused by breast cancer.

Thank you for your generous support, your gifts can provide another chance for life.

With my deepest gratitude,

Annis D. Tarver, Ph.D.
President
